Tallahassee, Fla. Two organizations dedicated to creating positive experiences the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County and Florida Prepaid have teamed to inform parents in the community about how they can make a Florida college accessible and affordable.
The Florida Prepaid College Plan was created 18 years ago to provide all Floridians especially those with disadvantaged financial circumstances with an opportunity to go to college, states Tom Wallace, Executive Director of the Florida Prepaid College Board. Im proud for the Prepaid Program to team with the Boys & Girls Club on providing their members and families with information and plans that can help make their dreams come true through higher education.
The alliance between the two non-profit organizations is a natural fit since the Boys & Girls Club creates a positive environment for diverse groups of underserved children through high school and the Florida Prepaid creates positive opportunities for the same group by making college affordable and accessible to all.
For most parents, it is not a question if they want to send their child to college, it is a question of how can they afford it, states Chairman Tate. With Florida Prepaids plans and options, there is something for every family to provide their children with the opportunity to realize their full potential.
As part of the alliance, Boys & Girls Club will distribute information about the Florida Prepaid College Plan and the Florida College Investment Plan.
With the Florida Prepaid College Plan, families can lock in the current cost of college tuition, local fees and dormitory housing for a child today. Once signed up, payments will never increase. When the child is ready for college, the plan covers the actual cost at any Florida public college, or the value of the plan can be transferred to most private colleges in Florida, select technical schools and most out-of-state colleges.
The Florida Prepaid College Plan is financially guaranteed by the State of Florida, so it is a safe way to save.ยง To qualify, the child or the childs parent/guardian must be a Florida resident. Anyone, including parents, grandparents, friends or even businesses, can purchase a plan.
Enrollment for the Florida Prepaid College Plan starts October 17, 2005 and runs through January 31, 2006. The Florida Prepaid College Plan is the largest program of its kind in the country with more than one million plans sold.
