Cancellation - Other Options
|
Did you know that there are
alternatives to canceling your Florida Prepaid College
Plan?
- You have ten years from the
projected college enrollment year to use the plan, and
the benefits can be extended another ten years.
- You may keep your tuition
plan and just cancel dormitory and/or local fee plans.
- You may downgrade a plan
prior to canceling your account. (Please contact our
customer service department Monday Friday 8am to 6pm
EST)
- Your plan may be transferred
to a member of the family of the current beneficiary.
(For this purpose a child includes a legally adopted
child and a brother or sister includes a half-brother
or a half-sister. Also, if the substitute beneficiary
is more than 3 years older than the original
beneficiary, you may be required to make a
supplemental payment to the plan.)
- A son or daughter , or
descendant of either
- A stepson or stepdaughter
- A brother, sister,
stepbrother, or stepsister
- The father or mother, or an
ancestor of either
- A stepfather or stepmother
- A son or daughter of a
brother or sister
- A brother or sister of the
father or mother
- A son-in-law,
daughter-in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law,
brother-in-law, or sister-in-law
- The spouse of any of the
foregoing individuals, including the beneficiary
- A first cousin of the beneficiary
Beneficiary Change Form
- Scholarship Refund
If the beneficiary has received a scholarship, you do
not have to cancel your plan. Scholarship refunds are
issued on a semester by semester basis, and
reimbursement requests are required each semester.
A scholarship refund is available if the account
owner submits
- A signed letter or
Scholarship Form
- A copy of the award letter or
receipt showing payment
- The beneficiarys class schedule with the credit
hours and school name for the semester in which the
refund is requested

- Unavailable Dorm Refund
The Florida Prepaid College Plan
will issue an Unavailable Dorm Refund so you do not have
to cancel your dormitory plan.
An unavailable dorm refund is available if the
account owner submits
- A signed letter
- A letter from the University
stating that no dorm room is available
- Copy of the beneficiarys
class schedule verifying that the beneficiary is
attending college
- Copy of the lease agreement
(for refund for Spring semester only)
- Out-of-State School
The beneficiary may also decide to attend a college
that is not in Florida. Florida Statutes specifies that
funds transferred to eligible out-of-state institution
may not exceed the current fee rates in Floridas state
universities. The Approved College link is a
comprehensive list to which prepaid benefits may be
transferred. In order to use benefits at an eligible
out-of-state school the account owner must complete a
transfer form.
